Dauphin Island
Cat Association
Volunteers Needed!
Did you know??
While we are currently able to TNR approximately 4-8 cats per week, we estimate that there are upwards of 150-200 unaltered feral cats still roaming freely on the island. Given their astounding reproductive rates, we feel trapping as many as we can within a very short period of time (“Mega-trap”) is the most effective way to go. This proactive approach will result in fewer colonies developing as quickly. (A female cat can produce an average of 3 litters in 1 year, and the average number of kittens per feline litter is 5. This means that in just 2 years, 1 female cat and her offspring could produce 225 cats!)
Here are some examples of how you can help as a volunteer:
-
Assist with trapping and feeding
-
Transport animals to vet or adopters
-
Assist with planning or working at events
We need all the help we can get!!! Email us today (dica2014@aol.com) to volunteer.
